Blonde and Amber Ales
A somewhat broad and generic group that includes hybrid beers such as Kolsch, English Summer Ales, and less assertive American and English Pale Ales. Characterized by biscuit and wheat malt sweetness. Moderate hop flavor of any variety and low to medium bitterness. Balance usually tilts towards the malt side and finishes medium-dry to sometimes sweet. Original gravity is 1.038 – 1.054 but can be higher. Hops range from 15-28 IBU’s.
HIGHLAND GAELIC ALE – AMERICAN AMBER ALE 5.8% (NORTH CAROLINA) 12oz $3.50
This is a very nice full-flavored amber with traces of chocolate, coffee, and toasted caramel that are balanced out with Cascade and Willamette hops. The nose is reminiscent of scottish ale maltiness without the smokey peat. Nice sweetness throughout with hops that linger into the finish.
LAGUNITAS CENSORED (AKA THE KRONIC)– RED ALE 5.9% (CALIFORNIA) 12oz $3.50
Copper amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is mostly caramel malts with some citrus hop twang. Flavors favor the malts, as is typical of the style, with caramel and biscuit malts out in front, hints of strawberry, and finishing up with piney and herbal hop bitterness.
ANCHOR STEAM BEER 4.9% (CALIFORNIA) 12oz $4
Copper color with off white head. Aroma is spicy, minty, and woody. The taste is honey-like sweet malts with minty floral hops. Soft and smooth in the mouth with caramel and hop flavors that linger after each sip.
REISSDORF KOLSCH (BRAUERI HEINRICH REISSDORF) 4.8% (GERMANY) 16.9 oz $7
Clear, crisp and clean, this Kolsch is incredibly drinkable—a great session beer. There’s a light floral complexity on the nose, and a slight, sweet biscuit-maltiness apparent throughout that is reminiscent of honey. The refreshing finish features light malt with faint fruit flavors.
