Porters
Porters are broken down into three main categories: Brown Porter, Robust Porter, and Baltic Porter. Porters originated in England from a blend of beers or styles known as ‘Entire’. Porters are a precursor to the Stout and are said to have been favored by porters and other physical laborers. Generally brewed with generous amounts of brown malt as well as dark roasted and chocolate malt. English hops are most common but are subdued. Original gravity ranges from 1.040 – 1.090 in Baltic Porters. Hops range from 18 – 40 IBU.
